JOHN CROW

John was probably born between 1590 and 1595. [YCY]

Mr. John John Crow of Yarmouth took the oath of allegiance and fidelity on 18 December 1638. [NBS1] He was made a freeman on 2 June 1640. [YCY] Mr. John Crow was one of four men granted land at Mattacheeset "now called Yarmouth" on 7 January 1638/9. At the same time, he was also one of nine men proposed to take up their freedom there. [NBS1]

Mr. John Crow of Yarmouth was one of three men appointed to determine small causes and controversies in Barnstable, Yarmouth and Sandwich. [NBS1]

Mr. John Crow was admitted a freeman on 2 June 1640. [NBS1] He was appointed to the committee of the town of Yarmouth on 1 June 1641, 7 June 1642 and 6 June 1643. [NSB2]

Mr. Crow was granted 80 acres of upland and 20 acres of meadow on 7 June 1648. [NBS2]

Mr. Crow was presented to the court on 6 Marach 1648/9 for recovering stolen goods, but was cleared. [NBS2]

Children of John Crow:

i. Yelverton Crowell married Elizabeth Unknown.

ii. Elizabeth Crow married Arthur Perry of Boston. [YCY]

iii. John Crow died before 6 March 1688/9. He married Mehitable Unknown.

The estate of Mr. John Crow, Sr., late of Yarmouth was settled on 6 March 1688/9 at the Perogatives Court in Barnstable. The heirs were his widow Mehitable, their eldest son John Crow, his other sons Samuel and Jeremiah Crow, his daughters Mehitable, Lydia, Elizabeth, Susanna and Hannah Crow, and his grandson Thomas Tobey. Daughter Mehitable is almost certainly the Mehitable Crow who married Thomas Tobey, the son of Thomas Tobey.
